** Rammanahalli becomes first Karnataka village to come under WiFi net

Rammanahalli, on Mahadevapura Road, on the outskirts of Mysuru, has become the first village in Karnataka, to entirely come under WiFi internet coverage.

With the establishment of a Public Data Office (PDO), the entire village has become a cost-effective WiFi zone, with high-speed internet, provided by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), an Union government-owned telecommunications service provider.

** Felicitations to achievers mark women’s day at CSIR-CFTRI

International Women’s Day was celebrated at CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) here recently.

D. Swaroopa Rani, senior scientist and President, CFTRI Women’s Association, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of International Women’s Day while emphasising the need for removing gender bias in society.

Villoo Morawala-Patell, Founder and Chairperson, Avesthagen Limited, Bengaluru, who was the chief guest, spoke about women’s role in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). She explained how women with perseverance and dedication have achieved success in most fields. They have successfully balanced work and family.

The special invitee of the event was Marthamma Mary, a woman auto driver of Mysuru city. She narrated her journey as an autorickshaw driver. Confidence and determination helped her achieve success in a vocation that is dominated by men, she said.

Sridevi Annapurna Singh, the first woman director of CSIR-CFTRI, gave her presidential remarks and talked about how women should respect themselves and feel strong.

On the occasion, the CSIR-CFTRI Women’s Association felicitated K. Kusuma, CFTRI staff member, for her achievement at the State-level para swimming competition where she won one gold and two silver medals.

** Human milk bank in Vani Vilas formally inaugurated

Nearly a hundred preterm and low-birth-weight babies at the State-run Vani Vilas Hospital have been getting supportive breast milk in the last three months at the hospital’s in-house milk bank. 

This bank, which is the first government human milk bank in Karnataka, was formally inaugurated by Health and Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Tuesday.

Named ‘Amruthdhare Human Milk Bank’, it has been functioning since November-end. So far, 27 litres of breast milk has been collected from donor mothers. Of this, 21 litres has been used to meet the needs of nearly a hundred babies.

** UPCL distributes ₹20 lakh scholarships to 905 students

Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) and Adani Foundation distributed ₹20 lakh scholarships to 905 meritorious students residing in the jurisdiction of 12 gram panchayats around the UPCL plant, Nandikur, in Udupi district, on Sunday.

The scholarships were distributed at a function organised in Padubidri.

Speaking on the occasion, president and executive director of UPCL Kishore Alva said that the respective gram panchyats identified the students. Students who have secured 85% and above marks in their academics during 2020-21 in SSLC, ITI, PU, diploma, graduation, post-graduation, engineering and medical courses were given away scholarships from the Corporate Social Responsibility Fund of the UPCL. It will motivate them to pursue higher education

Mysuru-born Dr. Lakshmi Krishnan, an Oral Pathologist by qualification with keen interest in cancer research and public health, currently works as Senior Clinical Research Scientist at Niramai Health Analytix in Bengaluru. 

Having lived and studied in the Heritage City for many years and now moved out of the city, her fondness for hometown remains quite strong. Hence to give a form to this fondness, Dr. Lakshmi, who has always dabbled in art and signed her painting with the nickname Kruthi, started off an ambitious project titled ‘Mysuru Days with Kruthi.’

** ‘Dabbawala’ begins operations in Hubballi

‘Dabbawala’, which has started its operations in Mumbai, Delhi, and other cities, has now entered Hubballi and will be initially delivering food, grocery items, and medicines.

n Friday,the formal launch of ‘Dabbawala’ was held in the presence of Rajashekhar Shivacharya Swami of Kashi Shakha Mutt in Hubballi and Gavi Siddhalinga Swami of Konnur. Director of KSSIDC S.C. Patil, personality development trainer Gururaj Patil, Ajay Joshi, and others were present.

Proprietor of ‘Dabbawala’ in Hubballi Chandrashekhar Hiremath said initially they would be operating in a radius of 8 km, offering service of pick up and drop of food and grocery items and medicines.

** Belagavi locals elated as Goa gives nod to develop Portuguese-era road

“Villagers of Kankumbi and Parwad go to Goa via Satre for paddy cultivation. They are more dependent on Goa for their source of income.

The Goa government has given green signal to develop the Portuguese-era road, which has been closed for traffic for years, bringing much relief to residents of Parwad, Kankumbi and surrounding villages in Khanapur taluk. This road connects Satre in Goa to Parwad village in Karnataka. The decision of the Goa government will help villagers of Parwad reach Goa border by foot within one hour, saving a lot of their time and money.
