** Website to report abuse of elderly launched

They face physical abuse, and fall prey to cybercrimes too

The outbreak of the pandemic has been especially harsh on senior citizens. It is said that compared to 2019-20, the complaints on ill-treatment and abuse of the elderly in the State rose by a whopping 71.7%.

On Tuesday (June 15), which is observed as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, a website to create awareness on elder abuse, how it can be prevented and how to report cases was launched by Praveen Sood, Director General and Inspector General of Police.

The bilingual website – www.stopelderabuse.in – has been developed by Nightingales Medical Trust.

Ramnath Shanbhag’s Kannada film, Dear Bhargava, won The Best LGBTQ Short at the Zero Degree Film Contest in May 2021 and was screened at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Film Festival where it won the Special Jury Award. The film also won the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Tagore International Film Festival.

** Kannada film producer K.C.N. Chandru passes away

The family banner KCN Movies produced many films that became blockbusters

Kannada film producer K.C.N. Chandrashekhar, popular as K.C.N. Chandru in film circles, passed away in Bengaluru late on Sunday. He was 69.

His family banner had produced some of the best known Kannada films, including those starring Rajkumar. Mr. Chandrashekhar carried forward the legacy of his father K.C.N. Gowda, who started the banner KCN Movies.

Some of the blockbusters produced by the banner included “Sharapanjara”, “Kasturi Nivasa”, “Babruvahana”, “Huliya Halina Mevu”, “Dari Thappida Maga” and “Anta” to name a few. The banner had also re-released colour versions of a few classics such as “Kasturi Nivasa.” Mr. Chandrashekhar was also a distributor and owned cinema houses in Bengaluru.

Mr. Chandrasekhar was chairman of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce thrice. He had also headed the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC). He had served on several other State- and national-level film bodies.

** Students can now access Sweden’s COMSOL simulator at IISc

Students pursuing scientific discipline and researchers across the country can now have access to Sweden’s COMSOL – a multi-physics software suite – at no cost. This became possible after the I-STEM, an initiative of the office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Union government, entered into a collaborative arrangement with the COMSOL group. I-STEM is located in the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

Students only have to register themselves with I-STEM, which is an online repository of information pertaining to science research equipment available in the country, and use the variety of computer simulations that the suite offers.
