** Over one lakh pages of palm leaf manuscripts digitised at Moorusavir mutt

As many as 100 volunteers helped Ashok Domlur in the effort

After a fortnight of intense work, over one lakh pages of manuscripts at Moorusavir mutt in Hubballi have been scanned and stored in digital format.

Over 100 volunteers, including regulars such as Veena Paramadi, Basamma Koti, Laxmi Biradar and Nirmala Bisanal, scanned each palm leaf under the guidance of technical expert and researcher Ashok Domlur. Among other things, over 395 manuscripts dating back to around 300 years were cleaned with lemon grass oil before being digitised now.

** Oxygen plant that can generate 7.2 lakh litres per day launched at Bengaluru Railway Hospital

In a major step towards self-sufficiency by the Bengaluru Railway Division, an oxygen plant that can generate up to 7.2 lakh litres of medical oxygen per day was launched on Thursday inside the premises of the Divisional Railway Hospital. It may be recalled that due to huge numbers of railway employees getting affected during the peak of the COVID outbreak, the 50-bed hospital had an acute shortage of medical oxygen and struggled to meet its daily requirement.

From falling in love with sourdough to selling over a million loaves since the inception of The Baker’s Dozen (TBD) in 2013, she helmed the ethnic sourdough explosion.

Handa’s first dalliance with the culinary world came when she began training in a Lebanese kitchen in the US (to perfect the hummus), and then baking bread in Bengaluru— “Where all my friends said they loved the kinds of bread I baked, but everything tasted the same! I realised that since bread wasn’t birthed here, I had to learn from the best hands to get that expertise home.”

She soon left to pursue a Diploma in International Bread Baking from International Culinary Institute (New York), followed by a Diploma in Patisserie from Le Cordon Bleu, Paris, to power her own.

** Kundapur: Holy Rosary Church 450th year celebration on October 7

The Holy Rosary Church here was founded in the year 1570 AD. All the arrangements for the grand celebration of 450 years of its existence were made last year, but because of the coronavirus pandemic, the celebrations had to wait. The celebrations will now be held on Thursday October 7 afternoon in a simple manner, said parish priest Fr Stany Tauro.

** Mangaluru: MUDA initiative – Half dozen ponds developed, six more underway

Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has been striving to rejuvenate ponds within its limits with a view to conserve them and thus enrich underground water table. Six ponds have already been developed and ready for inauguration while six more ponds are in different stages of rejuvenation.
