** Udupi: MIT bags 1st runner up position at Amex’s flagship annual hackathon ‘CodeStreet’

Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), engineering college of Manipal Academy of Higher Education added yet another feather to its cap by securing 1st Runners Up position in the ‘American Express CodeStreet hackathon’ national challenge with the theme ‘Open Banking’.

From MIT, team ‘Ipseity’ comprising of four students from Manipal Institute of Technology –Mini Shail Chhabra (CSE Dept), Praseedha Praveen Kalbhavi (ICT Dept), Pratyaksh Gupta (EEE Dept), and Shreya Tewari (ECE Dept). 

** Karkala: Stone edict recovered in Golikatte Nandalike

An edict carved out of stone has been found from Golikatte in Nandalike, Karkala taluk. Head of the department of archaeology, Prof T Murugeshi, said that Kartik, Gautham, and Shreyas, who are the archaeology students of Mulky Sundaram Shettyi Sollege, Shirva, found this edict.

The edict is written in Kannada script and runs eight lines. On one side of the stone which is shaped like an elongated lingam, the pictures of sun followed by half-moon are depicted. Below these pictures, the script is written in big letters. The stone is about 167 cm high.

** AITA CS7 Tennis Tournament: Mysuru Girl Wins Double Crown

Mysuru’s upcoming tennis player Arzan Khorakiwala, a product of the Raghuveer Tennis Academy, Mysuru, taking part in the AITA CS7 U-14 Tennis Tournament conducted by Tenniglo Tennis Academy at Coimbatore, won the U-14 Girls Singles and Doubles titles.

** Six yards of creativity

Designer Nagashree Sriram of Udupu Designer Studio in Jayanagar recently created a power suit using a pink and golden Kanchipuram saree for a client.

She says, “The client wanted to create something different for a function and she came with the idea to make a power suit out of the saree.

So, we made a pair of flared trousers, crop top and blazer to complete the outfit.” 

** Flying mobile towers may up India’s broadband penetration

Bengaluru start-up, VFLYX India, the drone tech arm of e-com platform for electronic/tech gadgets, XBOOM Utilities, is now doing R&D to introduce such drones. A proof of concept is expected to be ready in a year, as per the firm.

A swarm of long-flying drones, powered either by solar, electric, gasoline or hybrid engines have to be used to create a mobile tower environment (they become both receivers and repeaters) to ensure seamless Internet and mobile access to people in no-connectivity areas, said Rohit Dey, CTO, UAV/Drones at VFLYX.

** Excels In Karate

D.S. Swathi, training Karate at PKD (Prajwal Karate Dojo) under Sensei Prajwal and IMSKA (International Mabuni-ha Shito-ryu Karate Association) Style Chief Kyoshi Sivdas, who took part in the All India Open Invitational Karate Championship organised by Goju Ryu Karate Do Kenryu Kan India Trust, affiliated with Goju Ryu Karate Do Kenryukan Japan,at Hubballi on Oct. 9 and 10, won Silver Medal in Kata and third place in Kumite in 55-kg to 60-kg Division.

** City Karateka Shines At State Championship

Reigning State U-21 Years and Senior Individual Kata Champion, city’s young Deia S. Urs, who took part in this Championship, successfully defended her No. 1 Ranking in both U-21 and Seniors Individual Kata categories by securing gold medals in both the events in the State Championship organised at District Indoor Stadium on Kalasapura Road in Gadag recently, under the aegis of the Akhila Karnataka Sports Karate Association (AKSKA), recognised by Karnataka Sports Authority, Govt. of Karnataka in association Chetan Karate Club.

She is the only girl from Karnataka to represent Karnataka in both U-21 and Seniors Individual Kata category four times at the National Championship. Deia Urs, who has 3rd Degree Black Belt and is Ranked No. 2 in the U-21 years and No. 3 in the Seniors National-level, is trained by her father B.S. Srinath Urs, certified and accredited national coach.  Both practice under All India Shito Ryu Karate Do Union President Kyoshi C.S. Arun Machaiah.
